ALAN ALPASS - Principal Solicitor
Practice Areas: Business Law, Litigation and Family law
The principal and founder of Alpass & Associates, Alan Alpass has been in legal practice for over 35 years. In 1975 Alan was the youngest lawyer admitted to sole practice in Victoria. Alan’s practice these days focuses on Business Law and Litigation including Family Law, Crime, Employment Law and Estate Disputes. His extensive community networking has enabled him to become well known and comfortably approached by clients seeking advice as to their legal options and remedies.
Alpass & Associates has grown extensively during recent years and now employs 4 lawyers, 8 para-legals and 2 administrative staff. Alan’s clients benefit enormously from his extensive experience and broad knowledge of in a large range of legal matters. The practice is able to provide an extensive range of legal services in most areas including Estate Disputes, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Business Law, Leases, Consumer Law, Criminal Law, Debts and Insolvency, Employment Law, Family Law, Intellectual Property, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Personal Injuries & Compensation, Conveyancing, Property Law, Equal Opportunity, Wills, Probate and Powers of Attorney.
Alan lives locally and has four children aged from 15 to 28 years. His interests outside of law include classic motor vehicle eventing, gardening, keeping fit and, when time permits, overseas travel with his family.

Laurie Cavill – Legal Practitioner
Practice Areas: Litigation and Family law
Laurie is our Family Law Practitioner.
Laurie was admitted to practice in 1984 and, although he has practiced in a number of areas of law over the years, he now practices specifically in family law which he has done for over 16 years.
Laurie acts in all areas of family law including property disputes, pre-nuptial agreements, children’s issues, Child Support, Intervention Orders and de facto property disputes.
Laurie is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. He has written articles on family law issues for publication in various journals and frequently appears as an advocate in the Family Court and Federal Magistrates Court.
Laurie is well acquainted with the difficulties separating couples confront when trying to resolve difficult issues and in particular, the stresses associated with division of the assets of their relationship.
Laurie is married with two children and away from the law is a fervent Hawthorn supporter as well as enjoying surfing, skiing, cricket and music.

Barbara Kramer – Legal Practitioner
Practice Areas: Business Law and Litigation
Barbara practices in a wide variety of litigious matters including commercial disputes, breach of contract, employment law, debt recovery, motor vehicle property damage, will disputes and applications for assistance for victims of crime.
Barbara has expertise in the defence of drink driving and other summary offences, pleas and young driver offences.
Barbara also advises clients in buying and selling small to medium size businesses and associated commercial matters such as leases including new, transferred and varied leases.
Barbara was admitted to practice in 1980 and has many years of experience both in large and small practices. She has been with us since 2004.
Barbara grew up and resides in the Dandenongs and is married with three children.

Julie Pemberton – Legal Practitioner
Practice Areas: Business Law, Wills & Estate Planning and Property Law
Julie completed a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Jurisprudence at Monash University and was admitted to practice in 1974. Over many years working in small to medium practices, Julie has gained considerable legal experience in various areas of the law.
Julie currently practices in probate and estate administration, wills and powers of attorney. Her training in counselling gives her an empathetic approach to clients who have experienced a death of a close family member or have elderly family members needing legal advice with regard to wills and powers of attorney.
She also advises clients on property matters including purchases/leases of units under the Retirement Villages Act, lost title applications, general law title conversions, residential subdivisions and adverse possession claims.
Julie has been with us since 1994 and is married with four adult children and is enjoying the delights of being a grandparent.

Lyn Presland – Office Manager
Our office manager, Lyn Presland, has been employed with Alpass & Associates for over 20 years.
Lyn is in charge of all the office administration. She maintains our client data base and handles all our accounting procedures. Lyn is the person to contact when you have any account or payment queries.

Jill Crawford – Law Clerk
Practice Areas: Residential & Commercial Conveyancing
Prior to joining Alpass & Associates in October 2008 Jill was employed by a country law firm for 22 years.
Jill has been an Associate member of the Institute of Legal Executives for many years.
She has extensive experience in the field of property law and has primarily worked in the areas of domestic and farming conveyancing, subdivisions and mortgage/security work.

Melissa Morrow – Legal Secretary/Personal Assistant
Melissa is the secretary/personal assistant to Alan Alpass, Principal of Alpass & Associates, and has been employed with the firm for 5 years.
Melissa has 25 years of legal experience in all areas of law having worked in two Eastern Suburbs legal practices prior to joining Alpass & Associates in 2004.
Melissa is available and more than happy to assist clients when Alan is unavailable.
