The principal and founder of Alpass & Associates, Alan Alpass, has been in legal practice for nearly 35 years. In 1975 Alan was the youngest lawyer admitted to sole practice in Victoria. The practice these days focuses on Business Law, Family Law, and Estate Disputes. His extensive community networking has enabled him to become well known and comfortably approached by clients seeking advice as to their legal options and remedies.
Alpass & Associates has grown extensively during recent years and now employs 4 lawyers, 8 para-legals and 2 administrative staff. The firm's clients benefit enormously from its professional staffs' extensive experience and broad knowledge. The practice is able to provide an extensive range of legal services in Estate Disputes, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Business Law, Leases, Consumer Law, Criminal Law, Debts and Insolvency, Employment Law, Family Law, Intellectual Property, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Personal Injuries & Compensation, Conveyancing, Property Law, Equal Opportunity, Wills, Probate and Powers of Attorney.
One of our highest priorities is the recruitment and retention of clients. Obviously this is paramount to the success of a practice as 80 percent of our business comes from existing clients or referrals from those clients. We have decided to put together a client information program to promote the practice to potential clients and consolidate existing relationships. Empowering people with knowledge of legal matters is a great way of attracting new business. People who know their legal rights usually recognise when those rights are being encroached upon and consequently seek detailed legal advice.
One way in which we maintain regular contact with our clients is to provide them with a quarterly client news sheet. Clients are able to request to be included in our mail out list. The articles in the client news sheet are a mix of topical legal issues and stories on the delivery of legal services. The client news sheet alerts clients to services we can offer but perhaps that have not previously been considered.
Our Solicitors are all members of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV). The LIV is the peak body of the legal profession in Victoria. Membership of LIV section networks provides a means of staying up-to-date with the latest legal developments in black letter law and legal practice. The Law Institute provides members with access to a website, the monthly Law Institute Journal, weekly email bulletins, section newsletters and a comprehensive professional development program.
Lawyers in Victoria have, for sometime been required to undertake mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The Law Institute's program of CPD is extensive.
Ethics in legal practice is a major issue. Ethical considerations have continued to expand in legal practice and CPD activities address this issue.
This firm has access to a fully equipped and extensive library and resource facility including a computer lab, remote access for LIV members and delivery of research materials. The Law Institute library has an extensive legal research training program and members can use the services of the training librarian.
Recently our offices have been renovated and refurbished. We now have wheelchair access to both our buildings. Our offices are now more spacious and comfortable for the benefit of both staff and clients.
